Protect your Locks…

With colder temperatures we’re inclined to wear shawls, jackets, sweaters and hats to keep warm. Be mindful of winter wear that sheds excessively, many of the fibers can become embedded in locked hairstyles. Protect your locks by wearing satin lined caps or scarves with a low pile (yarn count). Lilla Rose hair jewelry also helps keep our locks up and safe from winter wear that has looser fibers. Stay warm.

Keep It Simple Styles…By Cathy

Keeping styles simple after retightenings is key in not compromising your locks or your fragile hairline. After you’ve had your locks retightened the last thing you want to experience is a style where you can’t smile for fear of your locks snapping at the roots.  Actually, we should be mindful of the tension on our locks at all times. Our hairline and locks are compromised when we repetitively wear styles where the locks are unduly stressed. A couple of weeks after your retighten when your locks have loosened up some, more elaborate styles can be experienced.  Bobbi Pins with smooth ends as well as hair jewelry with smooth edges complement our locked hairstyles. Part with your hair jewelry that has sharp edges and teeth that can weaken your locks over time. Keep in mind your stylist can’t read your mind when she’s styling your hair, be sure to let her know if the style is too tight or if bobby pins or hair jewelry is causing you discomfort. Be kind, gentle and loving towards your locks…K.I.S.S. by Cathy

Sisterlocks and Winter Wear…

If you have shoulder length Sisterlocks beware when wearing those beautiful warm acrylic sweaters, scarves and hats. True story, a few winters ago I wore a beautiful red knitted scarf on numerous occasions, it was my favorite go to scarf when I had playground duty at the school I worked for. At some point I caught a glimpse of the back of my locks, I couldn’t believe my eyes, many of my locks literally had red acrylic intertwined in them. My warm scarf was the culprit!! Being a Sisterlocks Consultant who does her own hair, I rarely see the back of my locks up close and personal…Unfortunately, dye doesn’t cover acrylic fibers so they had to stay in my locks because picking the fibers out was not an option, the fibers had literally become one with my locks. So, if you must wear those beautiful scarves and sweaters that shed please put those locks up and out of the way in an up-do. For those that love to keep their heads warm with caps or hats during our winter months be sure that they’re lined with a fabric that won’t shed onto your locks. The model is wearing an XL Flexi hair clip, the flexis are comfortable as well as beautiful. Order yours at the link below Stay warm!
